2009 IPA Pro Cup Playoffs

Ruthlandian Union Final Four Series

FM Redhawks Outdo Colfax Blasters 6-3 in 1st Game
Robby Kelly finally broke the spell... the Far Mountain Redhawks whipped the Colfax Blasters 6-3 today at Mountain View Stadium in game one of the RU Final 4 Series... it the first time in four games this season that the Redhawks managed to beat the Blasters... Kelly (2-0 3.65) struck out six, walked one and allowed 10 hits, while pitching the entire game... Far Mountain racked up 14 hits off three Colfax hurlers with starter Stony Blackwell (1-1 1.98) taking the loss... Blackwell was peppered for seven hits and walked five in six innings... he surrendered four runs, but three were not earned... RF Karl Heidelberg (.556) got the Blasters off to a good start with a two-run homer in the opening frame... Redhawk CF Shotgun Boggs (.250) made it 2-1 with a sac fly in the top of the second... Far Mountain went up 4-3 with three scores in the top of the fourth, getting one on a two-out error and RBI singles by 1B Fran Grzanka (.400) and SS Don Nichols (.379)... Boggs led the Redhawks with two RBIs and LF Nick Montag (.500) went 3-4 and scored twice... Heidelberg sparked Colfax at the plate with 3-3 and three RBIs.

Tycobbian Union Final 4 Series

DC Redbirds Nose Out Turon 5-4 in TU Opener
It was a nip-and-tuck 10-inning affair with quite a few lead changes before Denton City squeaked by Turon 5-4 in the opening game of the Tycobbian Union Final 4... It was decided when RF Lavon Gooch (.346) doubled to lead off the 10th and moved to third on a single by 1B Mick Abbott (.208)... with one away 2B Moses Redwine (.333) brought home the winning run with a sacrifice fly... Joe Hoffman, who came on in relief in the 10th picked up the victory with a runless inning... Jeb Pickett (0-1) also came on in the 10th and was the losing pitcher... Both clubs notched nine hits apiece... SS Trevor Tomlinson (.345) had three hits with two RBIs for Denton City and drove in the run in the ninth that sent the game into extra innings... both starters pitched well with Turon's James Stuart allowing only two runs in six innings and DC's Mila Mohoski permitting just two runs in his seven innings.
