METS AND HAMPTON STUN BUMS
Game 1
Mike Hampton has always had a bulldog mentality and it came through in game 1 of this series against the favored 55 Dodgers. The Mets stunned the Dodgers 7-1 in what is becoming a trend of the underdog teams doing much better then expected.
Hampton went the distance allowing 7 hits and only one run for the win. The Dodgers and Mets had a tight game going tied at one until the eigth inning when New York put 4 on the board. Rickey Henderson had a teo ru double and Robin Ventura a two out hit, chasing Don Newcombe from the game. Newcombe had been very tough up until that point, having struck out 11.
Now like the Expos the Mets have a chance to really take control of a major favorite, the Dodgers are likely to be desperate in game 2 but they have been there before.
