PHILLIES EDGE A's IN OPENER
In the opening game of the battle of Philadelphia its the Phillies team of the modern era that win the first fight. Ryan Howard slammed a 430 foot home run in the to tie the game and then the Phils extended their lead in the 7th inning by scoring three.
Cole Hamels kept his poise and tired late by leaving the game very tight after the A's cut the lead with 2 in the 8th after a running triple by Amos Strunk. Then it came down to Brad Lidge who looked very sharp in the last frame striking out Eddie Collins to end a good ball game.
