ATHLETICS FORCE A GAME 5
With their backs against the wall the 1911 Athletics wasted no time evening up the series with an 8-6 victory over the 08 Phillies. The A's scored 6 runs in the bottom of the first inning and held off their opponents the rest of the way.
Joe Blanton the Phillies starter was lit up like a Christmas tree in the first inning but did survive the frame and settled down to pitch an eventual 6 innings. Home Run Baker and Jack Berry each had two run doubles as the A's managed 6 hits in the big inning.
Down 7-1 in the 7th, Jimmy Rollins took Chief Bender long for a two run shot to narrow the gap.
Harry Krause came on to close things out but ran into a rough 9th inning of his own. Jayson Werth hit a three run home run in the ninth to cut the lead to two runs befoer the reliever could close the door.
So now the series between two world champions from diffrent eras moves to a final and critical decisive game.
