METS HANDLE REDS IN GAME 1

The Mets of 69 scored the first victory of this five game series thanks to a 5 run 5th inning and a good enough performance from their ace Tom Seaver.

Third baseman Wayne Garrett banged a three run home run in the big fifth inning as Gary Nolan wasnt helped by his defens in the inning and couldnt get out of the jam.

Cleon Jones had added a long solo shot an inning before as the Mets got on the board first.

Seaver had the strikeouts working for him, fanning 12 Reds along the way and going the distance throwing 112 pitches.
