SHEA ROCKS; METS UP TWO GAMES
The 1969 Mets got the support they needed from a capacity crowd at Shea Stadium as they take a commanding 2-0 lead in the series against the Reds and are now thinking sweep as the series goes back to the Queen City.
Jerry Koosman endured a 45 minute rain delay to earn a win and match Tom Seaver who won game 1 by striking out 12 Reds.
Tony Perez drove in two runs in the first inning and it looked like the Reds could be in control in game 2, but it was not to be. The Mets scored runs from the 5th inning on and mostly with small ball. Jim Merrit looked good early for the Reds but couldnt get out of the late innings.
Frustration could be seen on the leaders of the Reds team, a team that is still young and full of talent, but a team that may not have learned how to win yet.
