Long Ball Gives Braves Win
A good opening game for this anticipated series as Greg Maddux and Roger Clemens were the headline of the night. Both starters were good but not great as the game had its drama all the way until the final out.
The Red Sox got on Maddux from the opening pitch and Dwight Evans drove a single to right driving in two runs. The Red Sox then loaded the bases but Maddux struck out Spike Owen on a good cutter.
The Braves answered off Clemens from the bottom of their lineup, Jeff Blauser and Mike Lemke delivered two out hits to drive in runs and tie the score. The Red Sox took the lead in the third with a sacrafice fly.
The rest of the game saw strong pitching as expected, however it was the Braves who had the last laugh. Fred McGriff who has always been clutch hit the go ahead long ball in the 6th and then Clemens let up another in the 7th when Ryan Klesko took him yard.
A good close game at Fulton County.
