RU Rookie of the Year Award Handed Out
Vinnie Rastelli's age didn't show very often in his first year. He performed more like a veteran on the hill for the Sligo Rovers and today he captured the 2010 Ruthlandian Union Rookie of the Year Award presented by BNN. The 18-year-old starter registered a 17-12 record this season in 38 starts. Over 301 innings he gave up 288 hits, struck out 199 and issued 66 walks as he held the opposition to a .253 batting average and fashioned a 2.72 ERA. Sligo ended up fourth in the RU West standings.
Valka's neophyte closer Vinko Markovic came in second in the vote. The 24-year-old righty was 6-2 for the Blackhawks with 33 saves and a 2.43 ERA. Coming in third was another Sligo Rover, center fielder Clell Renshaw. He is 18 years of age and quite a hitter. Renshaw hit at .311 clip with 23 roundtrippers, 88 runs batted in, stole 14 bases and scored 108 times.
