Michael Kay is working the New York Yankees’ play-by-play. The Yankees are hosting Texas, and lead 1-0 in the fifth with two out and Endy Chavez at second. Elvis Andrus is the hitter, Javy Vazquez the pitcher.
"...Elvis Andrus now steps to the plate. Two away here in the top of the 5th… Yankees lead, one to nothing. Chavez takes a lead off second… here’s Vazquez, and... he missed down and in. Ball one… Andrus, one of the better rookies in the league last year, at the moment in a furious battle with the Mendoza line… now the one-oh pitch… here’s a sharp liner in the hole – A-Rod dives and makes a spectacular diving catch on that line drive! A sensational play by A-Rod! And he is suddenly coming up... rather awkwardly… it's not clear exactly what happened, but he is on the ground now, and holding his right leg near the ankle. It's hard to tell what went wrong - A-Rod dove to get the line drive from the bat of Andrus, and when he tried to get up, was unable. Jeter is waving for Donohue, who is already on his way out... Rodriguez made the play to end the inning, and now appears to be seriously hurt..."
