Stevenson Selected RU's Premier Batter
Sugar Valley's star catcher culminated a huge season by being named the Ruthlandian Union Golden Bat Award winner for 2013. Hal Stevenson, a 10-year veteran and 6-time All-Star, was one tough out this season as he battered pitchers for 49 home runs, drove in 134 runs and scored 109 times, while batting at a .311 clip. The 30-year-old Rattler backstop paced the RU in homers and RBIs. This is the first time Stevenson has won the award. He is a career .290 hitter and just past the 300 mark in home runs.

His biggest competition came from Forest City's fine left fielder 31-year-old Joe Judlin and Waleska's standout rookie center fielder Roy Hobbs. Judlin finished second in the balloting. He hit .320 with 35 roundtrippers, 115 RBIs and 102 runs. Hobbs led the RU with a .355 batting average, drove in 104 runs, scored 105 times and walloped 22 out of the park.
