Triple Crown Award to Cape Coral Ace
Cody Burg of the Cape Coral Hurricanes made history today in the IPA. Burg is the first pitcher to win the Triple Crown. The 32-year-old right-hander led the league in wins, ERA and strikeouts. Burg put up a 25-12 record, an ERA of 2.41, struck out 288 batters and walked only 54 in 310 innings this season. He started 39 times, tossed 12 complete games and held opposing clubs to a .218 average. Without a doubt Burg is the odds-on favorite to capture the Golden Arm Award this year.
Burg, the Hurricanes workhorse and 14-year vet, has led the TU in strikeouts 11 times and ERA 5 times, but this is his first season to top it in victories.
