Here is a photo of John H. Merritt from his time with the 1922 St. Paul AA club to replace the photo of the player pretending to be John H. Merritt but ain't.

The confusion probably comes as although John's entire major league career consisted of a single game as an outfielder with the Giants in 1913 with no AB's or chances, he was actually a pitcher and played until 1926 in other leagues.
