this happened to me too, but i doubt your problem is as simple as this.
Make sure you have a version of the game that is a later version number than your saved game. I did a fresh install of my game on a new harddrive and my save file wouldn't open. I just assumed that the game I downloaded was the latest version, but it was actually a version earlier than my saved game...just make sure that you have the latest patch! good luck though with your problem.
