Valenti Hits .383 to Earn RU Crown
With another season in the books, the 2015 Ruthlandian Union batting title has been awarded to Beechwood center fielder Vic Valenti. He put up a .383 batting average, recording 215 hits in 561 at-bats. Valenti's numbers included 31 doubles, 4 triples, 45 home runs, 120 RBIs and 119 runs scored. This year's batting champ appeared in 147 games. It was Valenti's first batting title. The Bobcats were second in the RU East.
Right fielder Chip Fiske of the last place Crystal Lake Crushers came in second in the batting race with a .372 average, 12 home runs, 72 runs batted in, scored 109 times and stole 34 bases. Waleska's fine center fielder Roy Hobbs finished third with a .365 mark, 42 roundtrippers, 125 RBIs and 124 runs scored. Hobbs paced the Westerners to a third place spot in the RU South standings.
Elliott Is TU Swing King
When it came to hitting in the Tycobbian Union this season, none did it better than Jack Elliott of the High Mesa Cowboys. He surpassed all his peers with a .363 average to take the 2015 batting crown and almost won the Triple Crown. He topped the TU in homers and average, but wound up a close third in RBIs. The 22-year-old first baseman had 214 hits, including 37 doubles, 11 triples and 56 home runs. Elliott participated in 154 games and also chipped in 135 RBIs and scored 139 times. Elliott had come close in his first two seasons, however this was his first time to win the batting title.
Ozarka's truly outstanding rookie third baseman Andre Dumas chalked up a .344 batting average to rank number two behind Elliott. Dumas slugged 44 homers, drove in 125 runs and scored 124 times in his freshman season and sparked the Naturals to the TU East pennant. 37-year-old Don Hanks, Summerland's second baseman, has his best year with a .333 average for third place. Hanks had 21 homers, 89 RBIs and 82 runs.
