RU Names Szabo Golden Arm Award Winner
After 13 years in the IPA, Ilya Szabo has no intention of going anywhere anytime soon. The 36-year-old Blasters starter hoisted up the Ruthlandian Union Golden Arm Award earlier today for the fourth time in his illustrious career. Szabo crafted a league-leading ERA of 1.99 as he won 23 games, dropped 12, fanned 218 and gave up 71 walks in 321 innings of work. Szabo posted 20 complete games with 4 shutouts and sparked Colfax to the RU West division title.
Rocky Rapids Don Chaney led the entire IPA with 26 victories and wound up number two in the Golden Arm poll. Chaney had a sparkling 2.36 ERA and 20 complete games to help the Snappers to a third-place spot in the tough RU West. He notched 4 shutouts and suffered 12 defeats. Szabo's pitching mate, Rodger Wright, was third in the balloting with a 23-9 mark and a 2.39 ERA.
