I suspect that this isn't being answered because nobody knows.
It's fairly clear that an unhappy player will perform badly. That's a logical result and one that it's relatively easy to test and verify.
Does he make other players perform badly? I don't think anyone really knows. It would make a certain amount of sense, but it's extremely hard to test. I would say the answer is, "probably, but maybe not."
As to whether I sign guys with expectations I can't meet -- no, never. On the other hand, if I end up with guys whose expectations I can't meet (maybe their expectations changed since I signed them, maybe I had a minor league promotion that filled in their regular position), I'll often keep him around until he starts getting really upset.
