2018 IPA Pro Cup Playoffs

Ruthlandian Union Final 4 Series

Snappers Snap Back, Chaney Blanks Ancona 5-0
Down to their last loss, Rocky Rapids snapped back and stayed alive against the upstart Ancona Red Elephants with a 5-0 triumph in game 5... veteran Don Chaney rose to the occasion and hurled his best game in the postseason this year with a 6-hit shutout... Chaney issued 3 walks and struck out 6 in a superlative outing... After 4 scoreless innings, the Snappers began to get to Ancona ace Clete Dukas, who hurt himself with 7 walks... Rocky Rapids put 2 on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth, then added singletons in the sixth, eighth and ninth... the Red Elephants had a shoddy day in the field with 4 miscues that led to 3 undeserved runs... Dukas (3-2 2.05) allowed 8 hits... Chaney also led the Snappers at the plate with 2 sacrifice flies.

Typhoons Trim Bucs 3-1 In 10 Innings, Up By Game
Turon won a tough game on the road, trimming Bay St. Clair 3-1 in 10 innings with fine pitching and strong defense... the game 5 victory was Turon's third triumph in the TU Final 4... the Typhoons need one win in the final two games to move on to the IPA Pro Cup Finals... Nicky Engstrom held the Buccaneers to 4 hits and 1 run in his 8 innings, then made way for closer Merle Studebaker, who blanked them for the last two frames on 2 hits...Studebaker (1-0 0.00) notched the victory... 4 double plays helped the Turon cause... Hal Meissner matched Engstrom for 8 innings, allowing only 1 run and 6 hits... both got in hot water because of walks... Meissner gave up 6 and fanned 5, while Engstrom walked 5 and whiffed 4... Turon stranded 13 runners... Bobby Joe Belvin (0-1 4.26) was the losing pitcher... the Typhoons drilled him for 2 runs and 3 hits in 2 innings... in the top of the tenth RF Dominick DiCaprio (.375) singled in the winning run... Turon added another run when C Augie Comasco walked with the bases loaded... DiCaprio gave the Typhoons the lead in the second with a solo roundtripper... the Buccaneers finally tied it up in the bottom of the eighth on RF Alejandro Feliciano's sacrifice fly.
