I found this picture of Des Cos in a group photo with him and some other UK fighters playing in a band in a talent competition in aid of the Boxing New Olympic Training Fund. This was in the August 23rd, 1968 Boxing News. I ran across in looking for information on Cox. Cox was playing a Sax.
By the way there may be a discrepancy in his BoxRec record. In researching through the Boxing New, the fight with Paul Cassidy may not be this Des Cox. The Boxing News accounts for that fight say Cassidy fought a PHil Cox from Exeter? Still looking through that. Anybody know anything about Des Cox I'd love to hear from you. Seems like way back when I did an earlier rating on him someone came forward mentioning they were a son or daughter of Cox?

First off I know nothing about boxing apart from I like it. So forgive the lack of knowlnledge and lanaguge I have no business being here on this detailed orientated fact site. All I know about this shot for now according to Daddy Cox who I just spoke with on the phone you are right about the event Rocco and it was held in some pub in Hackney opposite the old Hackey hospital..........He said he did not think the pub was still there. From what he can place of the shot from memory he said one of the boxers is John strati (not sure of spelling)...he thinks most of them were welter weights? Also in the original picture is my father's old trainer Harry Griver who is sitting on a stool on the stage. He said that he has not seen this picture for a long time and I would very much like to show the full image to him. For a man who spent his life with fists being thumped into his head (which from what I can tell he did most of the thumping to be honest) His memory on some of the details on his career is fascinating. I mean this is an old photo that he is trying to place. He also said that there were some real world champs up there on stage with him.......which he can't be clear on right now. He claims he never fought Paul Cassidy but, he has heard of Phil Cox. My father has a great vivid memory of some of his fights and small details.
More please.
Baby Cox.....
