Snappers Snatch Opener, Edge Elegants 4-3 in 14 Innings
Two of the finest clubs in the IPA paired up in the Ruthlandian Elite 8 Series... they went at it for 14 innings before Rocky Rapids emerged a 4-3 victor to take the opener at Snapper Stadium... the winning run was scored by SS Lucas Badeaux when he beat the throw to the plate... RF Tiger Noland's groundball RBI drove him in... Rocky Rapids got outstanding pitching, especially its relievers, who held the Elegants hitless over the last five frames... Milt Baker worked three innings and Earl Pitts the last two... Pitts (1-0) picked up the victory, while Eastshore closer Milt Campbell (0-1) lost it, yielding 1 hit, 1 run and 3 walks in 3 and one-third innings... both clubs got good starts... Elegants Danny Siegfied worked 10 innings, allowed 10 and 3 runs... Snapper starter Joe Anderson went the first 9, gave up 3 runs on 8 hits and struck out 7... Rocky Rapids outhit Eastshore 11 to 8... 1B Don Timmons had 2 hits and 2 RBIs, including a solo home run... Noland also had 2 hits and 2 runs batted in... LF Warren Crawford smacked a 2-run homer for the Elegants.
Tars Outscore Diamonds 13-9 In Game 1
It was billed as a battle between two talented offenses and that's exactly what it was in the first game of the Ruthlandian Elite 8 between hard-hitting Taranto and Claxton... the Tars rallied from a 9-4 deficit after four and half frames to win 13-9 as they scored 9 unanswered runs the last four and a half innings... a six-run sixth decided the game... SS Aron Aiello led the Tars with four RBIs, RF Augie Marshall had 3 and C Denny Radke drove in 2... Marshall hammered two home runs into the stands and Aiello got one... Claxton was sparked by RF K. C. Moerdijk with a 3-run clout and CF Tommy Rivers with a solo shot... SS Rory Davidson 2B Donnie Pilsner had a pair of RBIs each for the losers... Reliever Pat Pappas tossed a perfect sixth and seventh for the victory... Vance Waters and Vito Incardona finished it and allowed no hits in the eighth and ninth... George Ferguson suffered the loss as he was shelled for 5 runs in the sixth.

Engstrom Tops Torres, Turon Takes Opener 7-1
Both Turon and Luxora had their aces on the mound in the Tycobbian Elite 8 opening game at Typhoon Stadium and for 5 innings both were flawless... then the Typhoons tagged Tiago Torres for 3 runs in the sixth and added 4 more in the eighth for a 7-1 triumph... winning pitcher Nicky Engstrom stymied the Zorros on 4 hits and a run in his 8 innings, striking out 6 and walking only one in a fine performance... Turon collected 11 hits and were paced by SS Alan Hansen with 4 hits... CF Mac McCurnan delivered 2 hits and LF Reggie Penn had 2 runs batted in for the Typhoons.
Osterman Outduels Jordan 2-1, Nats Win First Game
Jose Ordonez's 2-run double in the fourth inning was all the runs Ozarka's Benny Osterman needed to subdue the Rolling Hills Reds in the first game of the TU Elite 8 Series... Osterman outdueled Sal Jordan 2-1, stopping the Reds on just one hit, a fourth-inning single by 2B Frank Bowman... Rolling Hills got its only run on an error in the 8th... Osterman (1-0)fanned 8 and walked 2 in a superlative outing... Natural closer Josh Carpenter sat the Reds down in order for the save in the ninth... Jordan went the route and lost a tough one, permitting only 2 runs and 6 hits with 7 Ks and 3 bases on balls.
