I found the New York Times article on the 1922 World Series, though I don't have the link handy at the moment. I'm still trying to find the one for the 1921 World Series.
(I'm searching the archives for info related to the distribution of the gate receipts for each World Series, but as it happens that endeavour ends up finding things useful to others.
