TU Stars Triumph 6-5 In 13-Inning Classic
The Tycobbian All-Stars outlasted the Ruthlandian All-Stars 6-5 in 13 innings at Trumpy Donald Park in Crystal Lake for their 15th victory in 21 All-Star games between the two leagues... Benny Rousseau (Ozarka) decided the game when he doubled in Bill Howell (Bay St. Clair) from first base... Howell had led off the inning with a walk... Tycobbia had a 3-1 lead after 7 innings, but fell behind 5-3 when Ruthlandia chalked up 4 runs in the eighth, only to allow the TU Stars to come back with single runs in the eighth and ninth to send it into overtime... the TU Stars had a 15-10 advantage in hits, led by SS James Couch (Ozarka) and LF Patric Giles (South Fork) with 3 hits apiece... Couch had the only home run in the game, a solo shot that tied it 5-5 in the ninth... both clubs were down to the last pitchers... managers Baby George (Crystal Lake) and Joe Mac Carney (Ozarka) each saved a starter to work the extra innings... the game's Most Valuable Player, Trini Corona (San Alejo), was superb... he blanked the RU Stars on 2 hits over the final 5 innings for the win... Scotty Simmons (Ranford) was tagged with the loss... Simmons was touched for 2 hits and a walk in an inning and a third.
