Major Deal: Wood for Meyerle
Sunday, November 5th, 1871: Players had to say quick good-byes to their teammates this morning after learning that St. Louis had traded 28-year-old second baseman Jimmy Wood to Forest Citys for 26-year-old right fielder Levi Meyerle. Club officials for both teams told reporters the major swap was finalized over the past two days after a week of negotiations.
