Canaries Pitching Ravaged by Norton
Wednesday, April 3rd, 1872: It was a big day for Frank Norton of the Cleveland Forest Citys. He led his club to a 27-2 victory over the Baltimore Canaries today at Newington Park. The 26-year-old third baseman smoked Canaries pitching for 5 hits in 6 at-bats.

Barlow on Fire: 5-6 for Cincinnati
Sunday, April 7th, 1872: It was a hits blitz for Tom Barlow at 23rd Street Grounds. The Cincinnati Reds shortstop tore into Chicago for 5 hits in 6 at-bats to pace the Reds to a 9-7 victory and wrote his name into the baseball record book.

Wednesday, April 24th, 1872: After the Philadelphia 28-14 victory over Baltimore and his 5-hit day right fielder Martin Mullen told BNN beat writers, "It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college ball, two hits in a game are very good... three or four hits even better... 5 or more are out of sight... and if it is in pro ball... it is really something special."
Barnes Goes on Rampage Against Canaries
Wednesday, April 24th, 1872: All game long Philadelphia's Ross Barnes was rattling the walls at Jefferson Street Grounds and banging out base hits against the Baltimore Canaries. When the dust finally settled on the diamond, he had a 5-hit day and the Athletics had a 28-14 victory.
