Monday, June 9th, 1873: It was high-5 day at Union Grounds, at least for Tom York of the Chicago White Stockings. He got a lot of high-5's for his outstanding hitting against the Brooklyn Atlantics, but he and his teammates couldn't pull out a win. York smashed 5 hits in 5 at-bats on a his record-setting day, but Chicago still dropped the game 11-9.
Baltimore CF Hines Will Miss 6 Weeks
Monday, June 9th, 1873: Baltimore fans will be disappointed to learn that Paul Hines suffered a knee sprain while making a defensive play in today's game. After the doctor informed the Baltimore Canaries manager that Hines was expected to miss 6 weeks, the manager told the press that the rest of the team would have to step up their play until the center fielder could return. "You can't make excuses in baseball, because there's always a game tomorrow," said the team's skipper.

O'Rourke Strokes 5 Hits
Friday, June 27th, 1873: It was a sensational day at the plate for Jim O'Rourke, but a letdown as well as the Atlantics dropped the game 18-13 to the Reds. Nonetheless the Brooklyn catcher was pure misery for the Cincinnati pitching staff. He left them shell shocked with 5 hits in 6 at-bats in an explosive display of hitting.
