IPA Stretch Run Report
In the RU North, Ancona has passed mid-season leader Taranto going into September... the Red Elephants (75-62) lead Ranford (72-65) by 3 games and Taranto (71-66) by 4... Ancona has surged in the last six weeks, while the Bulls and the Tars have floundered.
In the RU South, the Crystal Lake Crushers have it in cruise control as they get ready for the Pro Cup playoffs... the Crushers (88-49) are 13 games ahead of second-place Waleska (75-62) and 18 in front of third-place Belair Beach.
The Wynnamac Sundowners will have play better down the stretch, if they hope to hold off the surging Beechwood Bobcats and Sugar Valley Rattlers... Wynnamac's (81-56) lead in the RU East has dwindled down to just 4 games over Beechwood (77-60) and Sugar Valley (77-60)... the Sundowners led by 8 games over the Bobcats and Rattlers at the All-Star break.
Over in the RU West, the defending Pro Cup champion Sligo Rovers still have a battle on their hands with the Middlefield Roosters... the Rovers (83-54) are 4 games up in the two-team pennant race... Volusia (74-63) has faltered in recent weeks and is 9 games off the pace.
The leader in the TU North is the Luxora Zorros (76-61)... The Z's hold a comfortable 7-game margin over first-half front-runner North Hills (69-68) and Hartsdale (69-68)... The Hawks held a slight 2-game lead over Luxora at mid-season... The Zorros got red-hot and overtook slumping North Hills.
It was a tight race in the TU South for the opening half of the season with the Ginza Ninjas holding a 2-game lead over the defending division winner Arroyo Grande and 5 over the Turon Typhoons... as predicted the Suns have roared to the top of the standings and now lead it by 5 games over the runner-up Typhoons (81-56)... Ginza (73-64) has fallen to the wayside and now rests in fourth place, 13 games out of first... third place belongs to the Southport Sun Sox (78-59), who have rallied in the second half of the season and are currently behind by 8 games.
In the Tycobbian East, Ozarka has fallen back in the pack after leading by 2 games at the halfway point in the season... so has the front-running Tuckanarra Blue Jays... Midway (80-57) has taken over the race with a 5-game edge over runner-up High Mesa (75-62)... 8 over Red Bluff (72-65) and Tuckanarra (72-65), who are tied for third... shockingly Ozarka (71-66) has slipped to fourth place and trails by 9 games.
The Rolling Hills Reds (84-53) have taken charge in the TU West with a 5-game edge over Bayview (79-58)... the Reds were even with defending division champion Bay St. Clair (70-67) at mid-year, but the Buccaneers have dropped completely out of the hunt and are now in third place and 14 games off the pace.
