Sligo Shuts Out Wynnamac In Game 7
The defending Pro Cup holder Sligo Rovers played like champs today at home at Silver Mountain Park and blanked Wynnamac 6-0 in the game seven finale of the RU Elite 8... ace Les Patterson (1-2 3.20) came through for the Rovers and fired a 3-hit shutout to take the hard-fought series four games to three... the Rovers will advance to the RU Final 4 against the powerful Crystal Lake Crushers... game seven was close until the seventh when Sligo turned a 2-0 game into a 6-0 lead with a 4-run uprising against loser Lon Marshall (2-1 2.08), who had dominated them in two previous starts... Marshall pitched the entire game, allowing 11 hits and 6 runs with 10 Ks and 5 walks... Patterson struck out 8 and walked none in a superlative outing... at the plate RF Clell Renshaw (.385) had 2 hits and scored twice for the winners... LF Biff Blauer (.280) had a hit, walked twice and scored twice... 1B Johnny Lee Harder (.425) delivered 2 hits and an RBI... Wynnamac had its chance with a three games to two lead, but the Sundowners just couldn't put the Rovers away... the RU Final 4 will get underway on Thursday in Crystal Lake... the Crushers were 97-57 this season, while Sligo was 95-59. The team with the best season record gets the home field advantage in the postseason.
