Sunday, August 12th, 1877: Win, lose or draw -- Charlie Eden just keeps on getting base hits -- game after game after game. He has now stretched his hitting streak to 25 games. The Philadelphia Athletics center fielder picked up 1 hit in 4 at-bats today, but it wasn't enough to win the game. His club was defeated 7-3 by the Baltimore Orioles at Newington Park.
Baltimore Loses Harry Arundel
Sunday, August 12th, 1877: It took the Baltimore team doctor a while to realize it, but starting pitcher Harry Arundel won't simply play through a strained oblique after he got hurt throwing a pitch in today's Athletics-Orioles game. At first, it looked like Arundel might be back as early as tomorrow, but now the prognosis isn't quite so good; he's expected to miss at least 2-3 weeks.

Monday, August 20th, 1877: It wasn't just another day at the ballpark for Joe Start. It was a very special day, one that many players never experience. But he did. Start went on a tear and cracked hit after hit off Cincinnati pitching.

Tuesday, August 21st, 1877: Athletics center fielder Charlie Eden was one of the hottest hitters in baseball, coming into today's game against St. Louis with a 28-game hitting streak. However, the Brown Stockings put a chill in his bat, at least for today, and held him hit less in 4 at-bats during the St. Louis 6-1 triumph at Sportsman's Park I.
