Tuesday, September 4th, 1877: Bill Stearns made quick work of St. Louis, blanking the Brown Stockings 17-0 at Sportsman's Park I today. The Cleveland pitcher limited them to 6 hits to earn the victory. Stearns fanned 3 and walked 0.

Recovery Slow For Brown Stockings Bobby Mitchell
Saturday, September 8th, 1877: Bobby Mitchell is hurting again, just a few days into his treatment for a fractured fibula. Apparently the injury worsened, so the Brown Stockings sent the 21-year-old starting pitcher back to the doctors for reexamination. Mitchell told them that the pain had gotten much worse in recent days. It was confirmed that the injury was indeed much more severe that first thought. He was sent to a specialist, who felt that treatment would be longer than first diagnosed. Mitchell will now miss a minimum of 4 weeks.
