Kelly Ups Hit Streak to 20 Consecutive Games
Monday, June 3rd, 1878: "Yeah, I kept my string going, but it would have been better to come away with a win," said King Kelly after the Cincinnati Reds fell 7-5 to Brooklyn in Avenue Grounds today. The 20-year-old catcher upped his consecutive-game hitting streak to 20 games with 3 hits in 5 at-bats.

Saturday, June 8th, 1878: For once, it was the Reds picking up King Kelly. Their offensive catalyst, as the Cincinnati manager calls him, saw his 21-game hitting streak snapped as Kelly was held hitless by the Chicago White Stockings at Lake Front Park I. The 20-year-old catcher went 0-for-4. It should have made for a lousy day, but his teammates picked up the slack and whipped the White Stockings 4-0.
