Sunday, August 1st, 1880: No matter what St. Louis pitchers threw him today Tom Burns hit it. The 23-year-old Philadelphia shortstop racked up 5 hits in 5 at-bats today against them at Sportsman's Park I and spearheaded the Athletics to a 9-5 victory.
