Saturday, April 8th, 1882: Philadelphia's Dave Pierson dazzled the Sportsman's Park I crowd with a fine display of pitching. From the start, Pierson dominated the St. Louis lineup en route to a sparkling 6-0 shutout. He finished with no strikeouts and 1 walk.

Tuesday, April 11th, 1882: It wasn't just another day at the ballpark for Ed Swartwood. It was a very special day, one that many players never experience. But he did. Swartwood went on a tear and cracked hit after hit off Cincinnati pitching.

Team trainers were hesitant to predict a date for return but said it was likely the injury will keep the second baseman out at least 6-7 weeks.
