Tuesday, July 4th, 1882: The Louisville Eclipse breezed to victory today behind the shutout pitching of John Ward. He surrendered no runs, gave up 2 hits and finished the game with no walks and 6 strikeouts. The Eclipse won the game 3-0.

Mike Moynahan Sidelined for 4 Months
Tuesday, July 4th, 1882: The Detroit Wolverines were dealt a severe blow when Mike Moynahan was hurt running the bases recently in a game against the Boston Americans. After the game, the team trainer reported Moynahan might have to spend a lengthy time on the disabled list. Today doctors confirmed it, ruling the 25-year-old shortstop out for the rest of the season with a broken bone in the elbow. They indicated it would take Moynahan at least 4 months to heal.

Wednesday, July 5th, 1882: Lee Richmond of the Philadelphia Athletics spun his magic on the Washington Nationals today. He blanked them 7-0 on 6 hits, registering 4 strikeouts and no walks.
