Tucks Glynn Starr Selected Pro Cup MVP
Many people would say this year's Pro Cup Most Valuable Player was the Tuckanarra mound corps and they would be right. The Blue Jay twirlers did a masterful job in the postseason with the prime starters and relievers posting a terrific 2.11 ERA in 13 starts and 16 relief appearances. The Islandian Times conducted its poll and came out with 25-year-old Glynn Starr being chosen the IPA Pro Cup MVP. Starr, part of the super triplets that are the vital cogs of the new IPA champions, was 4-0 with a great 1.76 ERA in 5 starts. Starr tossed 41 innings, allowed only 23 hits, fanned 32 and walked 15. Starr beat Bay St. Clair 2-1, White River 3-2 and Valmara twice in the Pro Cup Finals, 7-3 and 4-0. Teams hit only .161 against him. He fired 7 strong innings in a second game against White River in the 5-2 victory, but did not get the decision. The Blue Jays won it with a 3-run ninth. This year's MVP was 25-10 with a 3.00 ERA during the regular season.
The number two vote-getter was Tuckanarra terrific closer Archie Desmond, who worked in 10 games, saved 6 and notched a 1-1 record with an impressive 1.74 ERA in 10 innings. The 33-year-old Desmond struck out 11 and walked 4.
Glynn's brother, Quinn, was third in the poll with an identical 4-0 mark with a 2.37 ERA. He made 5 starts, pitched 38 innings and struck out 18.
Tuckanarra's first baseman Lynn Starr laughingly told the press, "I was the black sheep of the family. I tried pitching, but couldn't get anybody out." However, the third Starr did his part in the title run. Lynn paced the Blue Jays in the playoffs with a .327 BA and 2 homers, while driving in 6 runs and scoring 8.
