Dillinger Named RU Best Newcomer
He's the toast of the town in Waleska -- the brand-new 2023 Ruthlandian Union Rookie of the Year Award winner -- left fielder Loco Dillinger. In his debut season he compiled some very impressive statistics, hitting .326, batting in 108 runs and scoring 83 times, while playing in 149 games. The 23-year-old newcomer also had 35 doubles, 4 triples and 28 home runs.
Number two in The Islandian Times rookie poll was Valka's fine right-hander Adam Aru. He was 21-16 with a sixth-place club with a 2.42 ERA, 15 complete games and 4 shutouts. Third in the vote was Belair Beach's slugging first sacker Kees Draeger. In 150 games Draeger batted .298 with 33 homers and 106 RBIs.
Hartwig Honored by TU as 2023 Best Rookie
Oxford left fielder Dennis Hartwig set the tone for rookies across the Tycobbian Union in 2023 and today was tabbed for the league's Rookie of the Year Award. He topped the TU in hitting with a .372 average in 150 games, while collecting 197 hits, 29 home runs, 90 RBIs and scoring 138 runs.
Hillsboro's Biggy Washington finished second in the balloting. The young Blazer center fielder led the Tycobbian Union with 54 steals, scored 100 runs and hit 25 homers. Washington played in 152 games and batted .268. His teammate Ben Garvik was third in The Islandian Times rookie survey. Garvik posted a 17-16 mark with a 3.07 ERA for the third-place Blazers. Garvik completed 15 games and had 2 shutouts.
