George Van Haltren Wins 1891 NL Batting Title
Monday, September 28th, 1891:
1891 was a banner season for George Van Haltren of the Chicago Colts. The 25-year-old center fielder had the highest batting average in the National League with a .348 average. Van Haltren notched 217 hits in 624 at-bats to take the crown. He also hit 6 home runs, drove in 86 runs and scored 103 times, while playing in 148 games.

Athletics Hitter Captures Triple Crown
Monday, September 28th, 1891: When it came to hitting the baseball, Denny Lyons had few peers in the American League this year. The gifted third baseman for Philadelphia led the league in hitting, home runs and runs batted in to capture the 1st Triple Crown in NABL history.

He put up a .378 average, 28 home runs and 152 RBIs during the 1891 campaign. A truly historic performance.

Speaking to reporters, Lyons said, "I'd be happy to lead the league in just one of these categories... to win all three... makes this an extra special season."
