Senators, Spiders Confirm Trade
Thursday, July 14th, 1892: BNN is reporting a rumored trade between the Washington Senators and Cleveland Spiders has been finalized. Hits Blitz for Colts Van Haltren
Sunday, August 7th, 1892: At South Side Park I today George Van Haltren led Chicago to a 15-6 victory over the Browns by hitting for the cycle, one of baseball's most difficult feats.
The Colts center fielder told reporters after the game, "Most people think the triple is the hardest one to get, but today, it was the homer... because the ball wasn't carrying. When I took it deep, I expected the ball to die on the warning track. Seeing the umpire give me the signal to circle the bases was sweet."
In addition to going 5-5, Van Haltren chalked up 1 run batted in and scored 5 runs in an exceptional performance.
George Van Haltren walked in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Elton Chamberlain in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, tripled in the 6th, singled in the 7th and doubled in the 8th.
For the season Van Haltren is batting .298 with 113 hits and 6 home runs. He has scored 77 times and batted in 68.
