Star LF Signs Extension with Philadelphia
Monday, July 13th, 1896: Media analysts hailed Philadelphia's signing of Jesse Burkett, one of North American BaseBall League's brightest stars, as a pivotal move.

While the deal is certain to raise a few eyebrows, Burkett is expected to earn every bit of the $21,600 promised him over 8 years.

This year Burkett is hitting .387 with 133 hits, 4 home runs, 57 RBIs and has scored 92 runs.

Star 3B Joyce Signs for 5 years
Friday, July 24th, 1896: Happy times in Chicago as the Colts and star third baseman Bill Joyce put the finishing touches on a $9,500 contract extension that will keep the 30-year-old in town 5 years longer.

The signing is great news for Chicago because players of this caliber are hard to come by.

This year Joyce is batting .335 with 113 hits, 11 home runs, 71 RBIs, 73 walks, .464 OBP and has scored 88 runs.
