the first game of a Saturday doubleheader on August 24, 1940, the Red Sox were being hammered by the Tigers... the score was 11-1 when Ted Williams went from left field to the mound to pitch the eighth and ninth innnings. It was his only career appearance as a pitcher, so if you're doing the 1940 season you might want this image.
