Who is this Handsome Brave Man?
I spent a bit of time looking for a 1953-1962 Brave (the tomahawk was removed from the uni in 1963) wearing a number in the 40s, with movie-star looks. Frankly, Milwaukee had some U-G-L-Y players back then. It clearly isn't Mathews (#41), Pafko (#48) or Joey "Eyebrows" Jay (#47), the three who put the most time during this period wearing an appropriate number (and not being racially disqualified, as #44 was).
I think this might be a 20-year-old Len Gabrielson during his September 1960 call-up (wearing what had been Mike Krsnich's #42). In later pics, Len looks more ruggedly handsome than this pretty boy does, but that's to be expected with age. The ears, eyebrows and overall face shape tend to match fairly well, IMO. Len's nose seems bigger, though…but maybe that's just the angle of the photograph minimizing the schnozz here?
I really don't know. My other theory would be that it's someone with a number that starts with "1" rather than "4", but that's a lot of work and I don't think the top part of the "1" comes down quite as far as the first numeral here does, so I'm hesitant to start up what could be a blind alley. So I thought I'd ask the sharper-eyes-than-mine here…who IS this guy?
