Fit for a King: Lajoie Wears Triple Crown
Monday, October 7th, 1901: When it came to hitting the baseball, Nap Lajoie had few peers in the National League this year. The gifted first baseman for Boston led the league in hitting, home runs and runs batted in to capture the 4th Triple Crown in NABL history.
He put up a .395 average, 16 home runs and 154 RBIs during the 1901 campaign. A truly historic performance.
Speaking to reporters, Lajoie said, "I'd be happy to lead the league in just one of these categories... to win all three... makes this an extra special season."
Hach Crowned AL Bat King
Monday, October 7th, 1901: Blues second baseman Irv Hach hit the cover off the ball all year long and today picked up the American League batting crown. The 28-year-old Hach hit .388 with 1 home run and 75 RBIs. He also delivered 156 hits, including 30 doubles and 5 triples, played in 112 games and scored 61 runs.
