Wednesday, October 8th, 1902: The teams who survived the hard battles of the regular season now begin their new campaign -- the postseason! The playoffs begin today in North American BaseBall League as the North American Series commences with these match-ups of clubs hoping to win the title:

Senators Win North American Series Crown
Friday, October 17th, 1902: The Washington Senators were too much for Philadelphia in this year's North American BaseBall League North American Series. They eliminated the Phillies today at Baker Bowl and captured the series 4-3.

The Senators toppled them by the score of 7-4 in the final game of the series to collect their 1st league championship. MVP was Cy Young (2-1, 1.16, 21 strike outs, while batting .375, 2 RBIs).

NL's Top Rookie Honored
Thursday, October 30th, 1902: It was an impressive debut for Cincinnati right fielder Jimmy Sebring. For his solid performance, he has been chosen the best of the 1902 freshman class in the National League.

The 20-year-old novice carved out a .289 average during the regular season, playing in 137 games and gathering 162 hits in 560 at-bats. Sebring hit 4 home runs while driving in 82 runs and scoring 93 times. He also picked up 39 walks to post a .332 on-base percentage.

AL Newcomer of the Year Award Goes to Drill
Thursday, October 30th, 1902: All the games have been played, all the votes have been counted and the recipient of the prestigious American League Newcomer of the Year Award is Lew Drill of the Cleveland Naps.

This talented first-year performer hit .302 and put up a .362 OBP. In 126 games this year, the catcher collected 157 hits in 520 at-bats, 3 home runs, 73 RBIs and scored 111 times.

Philadelphia Star, Outstanding Pitcher Award Winner
Saturday, November 1st, 1902: He's in the early phase of his career, but this past season Doc White performed like a veteran on the hill for the Philadelphia Phillies and walked away with the National League Outstanding Pitcher Award in the process.

The 23-year-old Phillies star fashioned a 32-15 won-loss record in 1902 with a 2.38 ERA. In 393.2 innings of work and 47 starts, White struck out 180 while giving up 386 hits and 89 walks. He held opposing batters to a .253 average.

Detroit's Donovan Takes Best Pitcher Prize
Saturday, November 1st, 1902: The Outstanding Pitcher Award for 1902 has been presented and the American League winner is Bill Donovan of Detroit.

"It's always nice to receive an award like this," said Donovan. "I just hope I can improve on my performance next year and be in the running again," the Tigers star told reporters.

Donovan excelled with an impressive 32-12 record in 47 starts. In 398.2 innings he yielded 425 hits and 142 walks, while striking out 195 and compiling a fine 3.25 ERA.

NL Announces Best Batter Award
Sunday, November 2nd, 1902: The top votegetter in this year's National League Outstanding Hitter Award balloting was Mike Donlin, the outstanding Philadelphia right fielder. He finished the season with a .388 average and a .459 on-base percentage. Mike Donlin also registered 221 hits, 38 doubles, 31 triples, 5 home runs, 106 RBIs and 141 runs scored.

1902 AL Top Hitter Trophy Given to Freeman
Sunday, November 2nd, 1902: Buck Freeman has been around North American BaseBall League enough to know a good hot streak when he sees one -- and he got to see one firsthand all year. For his standout run through the 1902 season, he's taking home the Outstanding Hitter Award in the American League.

The Detroit left fielder put up a batting average of .328 with 28 doubles, 19 triples, 20 home runs and 134 RBIs.

Saturday, November 1st, 1902: For players entering the 1902 draft today, there is nothing quite like the anticipation of being picked. And yet, the draft is unsettling to one and all. Almost from the first, things go haywire. Promises and mock drafts go up the chimney. To the young rookie, the pressure ends upon his selection, if only for a short interlude before reality sets in. St. Louis, Cincinnati, New York, Brooklyn and Philadelphia are the first five teams to pick this year. BNN has predicted these players to be among the first ten selected:

1902 Season Review
The Washington Senators squandered a five game lead to trail the Baltimore Orioles by three games with four games remaining to force a single game tiebreaker. Fred Tenney led the Senators with a .332 avg. Cy Seymour finished with a .309 and led with 7 home runs and 105 RBIs. Christy Mathewson led the pitching staff with 211 Ks with Cy Young close behind with 196. Cy Young led with 25 wins while Noodles Hahn (21) and Mathewson (20) finished with over 20 wins.

Off to 1903.
