Beechwood Pitcher Racks Up Golden Arm Award
The top twirler in the Ruthlandian Union was Beechwood's brilliant young Maury Patterson. The 23-year-old Bobcats star has been awarded the RU Golden Arm trophy in a poll conducted by The Islandian Times. Patterson, just in his second season, fashioned an extraordinary 26-8 won-loss record in 2026 with a fantastic 1.70 ERA. He also won the pitcher's Triple Crown -most wins, best ERA and most strikeouts. In 322 innings of work and 39 starts, Patterson struck out 324 while giving up 203 hits and 101 walks with 8 shutouts. He held opposing batters to a .182 average and led the league in strikeouts, shutouts, ERA and lowest batting average. He completed 23 games, second best in the league. The Bobcats easily won the RU East this year.

Runner-up vote-getter Lon Marshall of the Wynnamac Sundowners had a remarkable year, too. The 27-year-old Marshall posted a 24-14 record with a minuscule 1.87 ERA, topped only by Patterson. Workhorse Marshall hurled 336 innings, struck out 210 batters with 5 shutouts and 22 complete games. Wynnamac finished a distant second to Beechwood. Coming in third in the balloting was St. John's Don Baillie, who was one of the primary reasons the Crusaders leaped from seventh to first place in the RU South. Baillie crafted a superb 23-6 record with a 2.24 ERA.
