RU Stars Rally, Win 3rd Straight 7-5
At War Memorial Stadium in Valmara, the Ruthlandian All-Stars rallied late for a 7-5 victory over the Tycobbian All-Stars... it was the RU Stars third triumph in a row in the 27th IPA All-Star Classic... CF Thomas Hall (Grand City) tied the score at 5-all in the top of the eighth with a solo homer, then SS Jose De Leon (Waleska) drilled a tie-breaking double for the winning score... the RU All-Stars tacked on an insurance run in the ninth on a Vic Valenti (Beechwood) single and a triple by 1B Kees Draeger (Belair Beach)... rookie Miguel Valdes (San Dimas) notched the win with a scoreless seventh inning with the loss going to Bobby Dorignac (Midway), who was slammed for a pair of runs in the eighth.
The RU Stars picked up 11 hits, while the TU Stars collected 8... Ruthlandia's CF Roy Hobbs (Waleska) and CF Thomas Hall (Grand City) had the game's only homers... De Leon captured the Most Valuable Player Award... 2B Todd Tarkovsky (Mahaska) and 3B Billy Christianson (Rolling Hills) each had 2 hits for the losers... Hobbs and Draeger smacked 2 hits apiece for the winners... Ruthlandia still trails 18-9 in the All-Star Series.
