Kilkenny And Fairfax Skippers Named IPA Best Managers
Two managers lifted teams up from deep in the second division and propelled them into pennant contenders were honored as the IPA Managers of the Year. Rusty Denicola was selected the Ruthlandian Union Manager of the Year for improving his Kilkenny Cats from seventh to second in the RU North. The Cats rose from a 63-91 record to 82-72 and challenged division champ Valmara for the pennant. The Tycobbian Manager of the Year, Fairfax's Dane Wesner, took a last-place club and almost won the TU North crown, but fell one game short, losing out to Hartsdale in a single-game playoff. The Frogs went from a poor 69-85 mark last season to 84-71 this year. It was the first time either skipper has been honored as the leagues' best manager.
Denicola outpolled Sugar Valley's Gibby Bobkins and Forest City's Joe Judlin for the honor. Bobkins was the runner-up in The Islandian Times poll. The Rattlers climbed up from fifth to first in the RU East, going from 72-82 in 2028 to 88-66 this year. Judlin brought the Lumberjacks in third in the RU West. Forest City was in the cellar last year with a 66-88 mark. The 'Jacks were a much-improved 80-74 in 2029.
The Frogs' Wesner got strong competition from Hartsdale's Kendry Moulton, who was second in the poll and Andy Jefferson of the Hillsboro Blazers, who came in third. Moulton guided the Hellcats to the TU North title, moving up from third the previous season. The Hellcats went from 78-76 to 85-70. Jefferson turned the Blazers around from a sixth-place club (70-84) into a second-place team (81-73) in the TU East.
