I also consider myself as a baseball historian. If I may submit a different perspective. Baseball has always been played in colored uniforms and it was just the limitation of the image reproducing technology present at the time that turned it into a black and white era. I am very much of the viewpoint that I first saw voiced by Matt Fulling that colorization brings that image very much to life. I believe we should try and research uniform details and build up a uniform information database, extending the current one if possible to the 19th century so that we can, as much as possible, present an accurate representation of images as they were really were, not as the limitations of technology showed them to be.
I am enormously appreciative of those who are contributing to this thread in such a skilled manner in respect of their colorizations.

I completely agree with the Matt Fulling quote about bringing
these images to life. I can't forget feeling like I had
discovered a gold mime when I stumbled across his website.
Unbelievable work considering the now ancient software he used.
In fact it was in seeing and using his images
and learning he had stopped doing them himself that inspired me to
try to learn how to do it myself.
