Colfax Blasts Macs 12-5 In Opener
In game one of the Ruthlandian Elite 8 at Wynnamac's Granger Field, the Colfax bats were really booming with a 15-hit attack in the 12-5 triumph over the hometown Sundowners... in addition starter Bobby Fleetfoot (1-0) shut out Wynnamac on 2-hits for the first 5 frames as the Blasters build up an 8-0 lead... 3B Vic Draper sparked Colfax with 4 hits and 3 RBIs... 1B Kris Bernhoffer also drove in 2 runs with a homer and RF Glen Smith batted in 2 for the winners... 1B Giles Butler paced the Sundowners with a two-run homer... Fleetfoot fanned 7 and walked one and was the winning pitching, while starter Killara Bardo (0-1) sustained the loss for Wynnamac... he was slammed for 5 runs and 6 hits in just 3 innings.

C'Cats Rally Late, Whip Vips 5-3 In Game One
Grand City starter Kip Day was clobbered for 3 runs in the opening frame, but that's all the Valmara Vipers got for the day... the Cybercats bounced back and rallied late for a 5-3 victory on 2B Liam Cadbury's 2-run triple in the last of the eighth... Day went the route, struck out 6, issued 2 walks and gave up 7 hits for the win, whipping the Vipers Teddy Lem, who also went the distance, allowing 7 hits with 4 Ks and a walk... Cadbury sparked Grand City with 3 hits and 3B Jack Howell smacked a 2-run homer... Valmara was led by 1B Jerry Rembert with 2 hits and 2 RBIs... C Floyd Randolph got the other Viper run in.

'Canes Blow Away Blue Sox 17-5
No contest at Seaside Stadium in Cape Coral... the Hurricanes totally destroyed the Blue Lake Blue Sox 17-5 in game one of the Tycobbian Elite 8 Series... the 'Canes blew them away with a 21-hit barrage as they snapped a 3-3 tie with 7 runs in the seventh and 7 more in the eighth... leading the Cape Coral hit parade were RF Jan Krammer with 5 RBIs, C Tonio Libertore and CF Dan Isenberg with 3 each, and 2B Vic Hayes and P Randy Burns with 2 apiece in the shellacking... Burns got the win... he gave up 10 hits and 5 runs, whiffed 6 and walked 2... LF Eddie Nagen had a 2-run homer in defeat and 1B Herb Hull collect 3 base hits... rookie Derek Joubert was the loser.

BSC Bucs Nip Nats 2-1 in 10 Innings
The visiting Bay St. Clair Buccaneers won game one of the TU Elite 8 in a masterful 2-1 pitching duel with the Ozarka Naturals at Ellie Ewing Stadium decided in the tenth inning on SS Eddy Hunt's RBI double that scored 3B Teddy Nixon with the winning run... neither starter got the decision, but they both hurled excellent games... Ozarka's Brady Bell was expecially tough as he limited the Bucs to just one run and 5 hits in his 9 innings... Bell struck out 12 and walked 2 in a sharp performance... Jody Gentry went 8-plus frames for Bay St. Clair, yielded just one run and 6 hits with 8 strikeouts and a walk... the Bucs' bullpen ace Don Sawyer (1-0) logged a shaky win, allowing 2 hits and having to get out of a first and third situation in the last of the tenth... Denny Mills (0-1) was tagged with the defeat... Mills came on in the tenth and lost it... the Bucs were outhit 8-7 in the game.
