White Sox Houck Fires No-Hitter
Wednesday, April 19th, 1916: Byron Houck of the Chicago White Sox was certainly the King of the Hill today in the American League. He really did a number on the St. Louis Browns -- and that number was zero -- the number of hits he gave up in his 4-0 victory at Comiskey Park.
"I can't believe I got a no-hitter!" said an exuberant Houck after the game. "That is the last thing you think about when you go out to the mound. You just want to win the game. The toughest part was the last couple of innings. Everybody in the ballpark knows you have a no-hitter, including me. That was the hard part, keeping your focus and concentration while your heart is pounding."
Houck recorded 4 strikeouts and 1 walk in his sensational performance.
