Washington Senators Ship Crawford to Cleveland
Monday, June 24th, 1918
It won't turn either team into an instant contender or provide a huge franchise shakeup, but the Washington Senators and Cleveland Indians finalized a trade today. Washington will send 19-year-old reliever William Pierson, 38-year-old first baseman Sam Crawford, 27-year-old catcher Walt Alexander and a 1st round draft pick to the Indians, while the Senators will receive 28-year-old first baseman Jack Fournier. "We think this is a deal that will help out both teams and we're glad to get it done," said the Senators general manager). The trade is expected to be officially completed later today with the players to join their new ball clubs by the end of the day.
Crawford on the season is hitting .126 with no home runs. His stats include 5 RBIs and 9 runs scored.
This season Fournier is batting at a .231 clip with no home runs and 4 RBIs.
