2031 IPA Pro Cup Final 4 Series
Ruthlandian Union
Vipers Raise Cain, Blank Elnora 4-0
The Pro Cup favorite, the Valmara Vipers, raised a little cane in the Ruthlandian Union Final 4 with a 4-0 shutout over Elnora in game three at State Fair Park... this gave the Vipers a one-game edge in the series... Carroll Cain (2-0/3.50) tossed a strong 5-hitter against the All-Stars... Elnora rarely threatened in the game, getting runners as far as second only twice... finally in the ninth a runner reached third with one out, but Cain quickly put out the fire and finished off the All-Stars.
Valmara took the lead early with 2 runs in the first inning on RBI singles by LF Benny Hooper (.243) and C Floyd Randolph (.333)... CF Reno DiBenedetto (.429) hurt his back sliding into second on a double and was replaced in the opening inning... DiBenedetto was the Vipers top hitter in the season and the postseason and will be out of action at least three weeks and will miss the rest of the playoffs... Hooper also doubled in another Viper run in the top of the third... and CF Belton Braddock got the final score in with a sac fly in the ninth... Jeremy Sellers (1-2/8.20) went all the way in defeat, but allowed 11 hits and 4 runs... Randolph and SS Teddy Rudek (.333) had 3 hits to lead Valmara, while Hooper added 2 hits and Braddock (.333) scored 2 runs.
Tycobbian Union
Chadwick's Triple Gives Reds Final 4 Lead
The Rolling Hills bats were silent for most of game three at Ninja Stadium in Ginza, but Lonnie Chadwick saved the day with a 2-run eighth-inning triple to give the Reds a 3-2 triumph over Ginza and a two games to one lead in the Tycobbian Final 4... Buck Myers (2-0/3.38) was the winning pitcher with a sparkling 8 innings... Myers allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, fanned 3 and walked 3... Maury Cantrell (1-0/1.00) made his sixth postseason appearance and notched his third save with a perfect ninth.
After 7 solid frames Ginza's Ryuji Kaneko (1-1/3.38) was in the lead 2-1, but he weakened in the eighth and departed... reliever Frank Beard (1-1/1.35) not only blew the save, but he also lost the game... Kaneko worked 7 and two-thirds innings, permitting just 2 runs on 7 hits... Rolling Hills got 9 hits in all and were led by Chadwick (.321) with 3 hits and a pair of RBIs... 2B Derek Kristensen (.214) drove in the Reds first run in the fourth to tie the score at 1 apiece... CF Cotton Cornwall (.216) and 1B Roger Lanier (.216) has RBI singles in the first and fourth for the Ninjas and LF Sadaharu Uchiyama (.324) topped them with a pair of hits.
