2031 IPA Pro Cup Finals - Game 5 at the Midtown Ball Grounds in Rolling Hills
Vips Survive, Hooper HR Wins It 6-3
Game five was a "must win" for Valmara and they got it - Benny Hooper slugged a 2-run homer in the top of the seventh to give the Vipers a 5-3 lead over Rolling Hills at the Midtown Base Ball Grounds en route to a 6-3 victory to remain alive in the Pro Cup Finals... the series stands at 3-2 in favor of Rolling Hills... Garry Gronek hurled a solid game, halting the Reds on 3 runs and 6 hits... Gronek (3-3/2.83) fanned 6 and walked 4, while going the distance... Dave Gronkowski (2-1/3.38) was the losing pitcher... Gronkowski gave up Hooper's decisive homer.
Valmara had 14 hits and were led by Benny Hooper (.267) with 3 hits and 4 RBIs... Hooper now has 2 home runs in the playoffs and 20 runs batted in... RF Gerry Kazmarek (.219) chipped in 3 hits and scored twice for the Vipers.
The Pro Cup Finals will continue tomorrow afternoon with game six at War Memorial Stadium in Valmara... the Vipers will send Richie Raeburn (10-4/2.01) to the mound and Kenny Leonard (10-6/3.79) will get the starting assignment for the Reds... Raeburn is 0-1 with a 3.38 ERA in one start in the playoffs, while Leonard is 1-0 with a 4.40 ERA in 2 starts and 3 relief appearances... should it be necessary, game seven will also be in Valmara.
